Special Olympic Athletes Honored

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Some very important coastal empire athletes were honored tonight.  22 well deserving men and women received Special Olympics medals for athletic excellence from Chairman Pete Liakakis.

Then, it was all about the celebration.  The ceremony was put on by Abilities Unlimited, a non-profit organization that provides fitness training to mentally and physically disabled neighbors.

Pete Liakakis, Chatham County Commission

"It inspires them.  Even if they just lift ten pounds, and the audience out there applauds them, you can see their smile and you can see they feel like they are somebody."

The athletes went to Atlanta to compete in the weightlifting bracket of the Special Olympics.

A big congratulations to all of the athletes.
