Falcons sign DBs Coleman and Hutchins, continue talks with Turner

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons continued to court running

back Michael Turner today while signing free-agent defensive backs

Erik Coleman and Von Hutchins.

Coleman, who has seven interceptions and 338 tackles in four

years with the New York Jets, is the likely replacement for safety

Chris Crocker, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Coleman (5-10, 200) had interceptions in his first two games in

his 2004 rookie season. Coleman, from Washington State, had 116

tackles in 2005 and 93 stops in 2006. He led the Jets with 10

tackles and intercepted a pass by Tom Brady in a playoff loss to

New England.

Coleman had 41 tackles in 15 games last season.

Hutchins, who has played cornerback and safety, spent his first

two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Houston

Texans in 2006. He has 142 career tackles with two interceptions,

including one returned for a touchdown.

Hutchins, from Mississippi, made 15 starts for Houston last

season and set a career high with 94 tackles.

Terms of the deals with Coleman and Hutchins were not

immediately available.
