Curry scores 35 as Davidson extends winning streak to 19 games
STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Stephen Curry scored 35 points and
Davidson extended the nation's longest winning streak to 19 games
in a 89-69 rout over Georgia Southern tonight.
The Wildcats (23-6, 20-0 Southern Conference) have not lost in
two months since a 66-65 lost to North Carolina State on December
21st, 2007.
Georgia Southern (20-11, 13-7) cut the lead to 42-37 with 19:27
left in the second half on a basket by Matthew Fields, who finished
with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
But Davidson later pushed its lead to 69-51 with 9:17 remaining
in the game, capped by Curry's 3-pointer. The Wildcats went ahead
by 28 points -- their largest of the game -- with 7:02 left when
Bryant Barr hit a 3-pointer to make it 80-52.
Jason Richards finished with 12 points and 12 assists for
Davidson, while Boris Meno scored 16 and grabbed nine rebounds.
Curry, who entered the contest averaging 25 points a game, made
7-of-9 shots from beyond the arc.
Anthony Marshall and Dwayne Foreman scored 15 points apiece for
the Eagles. Julian Allen had 12 points.
Both teams will have first-round byes in the conference
tournament next week.
