WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) - Jair Jurrjens and six other Atlanta
pitchers combined on a one-hitter today in a 4-1 spring exhibition
victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Jurrjens, who is trying to make his case for a spot in the
rotation, held the Indians hitless and struck out two in in the
first three innings.
Mark Teixeira had an RBI single and Joe Borchard hit a two-run
double in the third off of Cleveland's Joe Borowski. Teixeira had a
solo homer in the sixth.
The Indians didn't score until getting a hit off of Colter Bean
with two outs in the ninth.
Jurrgens was acquired from Detroit in the trade that sent Edgar
Renteria to the Tigers.
Atlanta manager Bobby Cox says third baseman Chipper Jones might
be ready to play tomorrow when the Braves travel to Lakeland,
Florida, to meet the Tigers.
Jones has been out after tweaking a hamstring during a weekend
batting practice.
