Ga. Southern Slugs into History

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Georgia Southern Diamond Eagles apparently couldn't take a joke about becoming Columbia University's first victim of the season Friday Night, because Saturday Afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, the Eagles broke out the whoopin sticks.

The Eagles set a NCAA record for all divisions as they slugged 14 homeruns in a 26-8 win over Columbia.

12 different Eagles got in on the power display,  two players, Chris Shehan and Griffin Benedict connected for two homers apiece.

The 16 combined homeruns by the two teams tie for second most in NCAA Division 1 history.

You can see a couple of those homeruns, Griffin Benedict's first one, and Patrick Porter's solo shot in the attached video.
