Dennis P. Coyle will lead Spring Drills at Savannah Country Day School next week as the teams' new head football coach.. Coach Coyle brings 13 seasons of high school football coaching experience from schools in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
Additionally, he previously served one year as a graduate assistant football coach for the University of Michigan. Currently, Coach Coyle is the director of Recruitment and Retention for the Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati. Coach Coyle has a B.A. degree in history from the University of Cincinnati, and will complete an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership in 2010.
When asked to comment on his new position, Coach Coyle said, “I’m excited to come to Savannah Country Day because it is a wonderful community, and I look forward to working with some of the best kids in Savannah and their families. Everyone I have met there has been absolutely wonderful, and I can’t wait to get started.” Marcia Hull, deputy head of school at Country Day, stated, “With Coach Coyle’s hire, we reaffirm the importance of athletics at Savannah Country Day. Our school is perhaps best known for its academic excellence, but our varied athletic teams are also outstanding, routinely making the state playoffs. Valuable learning takes place not only in the classroom, but also on the playing field.”
Savannah Country Day won the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Dodge Directors Cup in the 2005-06 school year and finished second in 2008. The purpose of the GADA Dodge Directors Cup is to recognize those athletic departments in all high school classifications who have excelled and shown superior performance. Country Day is the only school in Chatham County to win this award. Savannah Country Day’s varsity athletic teams have won 22 state championships. All varsity teams made it into the state playoffs in 2007-08. Approximately 78% of Upper School students participate in at least one sport.
