ATHENS, Ga. - A University of Georgia outfielder who hurt his neck in a collision with a teammate will undergo surgery.
The Georgia athletics department says Dr. Kim Walpert of St. Mary's Hospital will perform surgery Monday on Johnathan Taylor's neck.
Taylor suffered the injury in a head-to-head collision with Zach Cone while both players chased a line drive in the third inning of a Sunday game against Florida State.
Cone left the field under his own power, but medical staffers placed Taylor on a stretcher with his neck stabilized in a brace.
The team canceled a scheduled postgame autograph session for children, and coach David Perno didn't make a regular appearance on radio.
