RELEASE FROM THE HERITAGE CLASSIC FOUNDATION:

The world-renowned Players Amateur, founded by Duke Delcher and Tom McKnight, and directed by The Heritage Classic Foundation is moving to Berkeley Hall Club, home of two world-class core golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and an award-winning 30-acre Golf Learning Center and Practice facility in Bluffton, SC.

The move of the Players Amateur from its traditional location at the Belfair Golf Club came after much thought and careful consideration. Delcher and McKnight created the premier tournament for the world’s best amateur players to experience rigorous challenge and cutting edge competition.

“The Players Amateur is an opportunity for the world’s best amateur golfers to earn a spot in the RBC Heritage PGA TOUR golf tournament,” said Delcher. “Our duty to them is to ensure the bar is raised and the challenge is constant so they continue to hone skills and improve their game.”

The Players Amateur is one of the top amateur events in the world. “It is the goal of the Heritage Classic Foundation to support golf in our community and to raise money for charity,” said Steve Wilmot, Tournament Director of the Heritage Classic Foundation.

“Berkeley Hall Club looks forward to the opportunity of working with the Duke Delcher, Tom McKnight and the Heritage Classic Foundation and being associated with a tournament that contributes so much to world of amateur golf and community at large,” said Adrian Morris, General Manager & Chief Operating Officer of Berkeley Hall Club.

Corbin Mills was the 2011 Players Amateur champion. The 2012 Players Amateur is set for July 9-15.

Players Amateur alumni are making a name for themselves in the world of professional golf.  More than 20 are now playing on the PGA TOUR including Ben Curtis, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Berkeley Hall Resident Kyle Stanley, Camilo Villegas and Nick Watney.  At the end of the 2011 FedExCup Competition, the alumni earned more than $40.5 million on the PGA TOUR.
