Brittany Shane comes to WSAV from Orlando, Florida. There, she worked as a reporter for the local PBS affiliate, on a long-form news program. From election coverage, to the water crisis, Brittany was able to dive deeper into stories affecting Central Florida. Prior to that, she attended Ohio University, in Athens,Ohio. There, she earned a Specialized Studies degree in Journalism and English. Brittany was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and she is die-hard Steelers fan. When she isn't reporting on the news of the day, she is playing with her yorkshire terrier or reading a good book.
"The chain of events that happened here led to the establishment of the first European city in the United States, which is St. Augustine, St. Augustine would not be there if it had not been for Jean Ribaut's landing here, and the subsequent historical events that evolved from this event in 1562," said USCB professor, Dr. Lawrence Rowland.
"Not only is it important to exercise, but we also have a chef that comes in and teaches us about healthy eating, not only is it about healthy eating habits, but we also tell them about the importance of cleaning the environment. So we do a lot of community service, it's all the way around, it's not just one area of your life, you have to be balanced," said Lofton.
"I actually came out to speak about the school budget, and the fact that the school board has approved a tax increase. I don't think it's right to do that especially in this day and age when so many people are hurting," said Bluffton neighbor, Jane Kenny.
As part of this week, officials will be conducting free boat inspections at Lemon Island on Saturday from 10 a.m. to Noon and the same time on Sunday at Pinckney Island, because they want boaters to get checked out before they even get on the water.
"Over the years we have contributed to the children of Hilton Head more than $600,000, from the time we've been in inception to present,so it amounts to a lot of dollars and over the next 20 years we hope to do the same if not double it it would be great!" said member Ray Carlton.
Neighbors had the chance to taste more than 60 craft beers from over 20 breweries at the first Hilton Head Island Craft Beer Festival.
"What happened? You know that's all I want to know. You know, I don't care if he had to die like that, or whatever, I just wanna know what's going on. I need closure," said Morovich Brown.

"To get them knowing the basics before the enter kindergarten, because in kindergarten there's so much you need to know. The festival also known as "Mayfest" is put on by the Bluffton Rotary club and showcased 260 vendors from across the country and organizers say the interest in the show keeps growing.
"Well we just wanna hit a different medium, we've got magazines, we've got print, we've got electronic, we've got a fantastic web page, that brags about our town which is wonderful, but we're not hitting the masses that travel down I-95 and I think that's what we wanna try, go back to the roots of advertising," said town councilwoman, Karen Lavery.
The leadership program's been working on this for the last year, and it's all been funded thanks to sponsors. The official unveiling of the park will be Thursday morning at 9am.
The 20th annual "Stomp Out Hunger" food drive will take place Saturday across the country. Aall you have to do to participate is leave some non-perishable food items with your mail carrier.
WSAV collected 75 old computers and printers and recycled 7,000lbs of paper.
"Safety town is a project to teach small children principles of home safety, fire safety, as well as road and pedestrian safety," said organizer, Glenn Stanford.
"It is such a great opportunity for a growing business to have access to expertise and support in all these different areas, it's invaluable," said Louise Hodges of Green Bug Pest Control.

"Art shows are the way I can connect one on one with my customers and with the public. Whether they buy or not, they are interested in the process of what I do, they're interested in art, and this is where I actually get to talk to people," said Kathy Oda.
All of the proceeds go to the Island Rec Center's scholarship fund.
