A flood warning is in effect for Appling, Toombs, Johnson, Laurens, Washington, Montgomery, Treutlen, Wheeler, Dodge, Telfair, Wilcox, and Wilkinson Counties.
For Appling and Toombs Counties: minor flooding is occurring and expected to continue for the Altamaha River. As of Tuesday night the river was above flood stage at Baxley.
Heavy rainfall has pushed the Altamaha River at Baxley above the flood stage of 74.5 feet. On Tuesday night the river had reached 74.7 feet at 9 pm. The river is forecast to reach 77.6 feet by 8 pm Saturday and to reach 77.9 feet on next Tuesday before it begins to fall.
For Johnson, Laurens, Washington, Wilkinson, Montgomery, Treutlen, and Wheeler Counties: flooding is expected to occur along the Oconee River.
The Oconee River near Dublin at 9 pm Tuesday had a stage of 20.3 feet, and rising. Minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 21.0 feet. The river is forecast to rise above flood stage on Wednesday and continue to rise to near 24.3 feet by early Friday morning. At 24.0 feet, minor flooding continues. The water level rises to near a few homes.
For Dodge, Telfair, and Wilcox Counties: the Ocmulgee River near Abbeville is expected to cause minor flooding due to heavy rainfall.
