A flash flood watch is in effect for the following counties Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, McIntosh, Evans, Long, and Tattnall through Friday morning.
A warm front over southern Georgia will gradually lift north across the area through this evening while a series of low pressure waves ride to the northeast along this front. These systems will combine to produce heavy rain across portions of southeast Georgia, mainly south of interstate 16.
Additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches through Friday morning may cause flash flooding in the watch area, particularly if heavy rain is received in a short period of time. Ditches and streams may fill quickly and overflow. In addition, dirt roads and poorly drained roads may become impassable. Motorists are urged to find other routes if flooded roads are encountered.
A flash flood watch means there is a potential for flash flooding based on current forecasts. Monitor the latest forecasts and be alert for possible flash flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding develops.
