Flood Warnings Update

Due to heavy rains throughout the month of December, a number of area rivers remain at or above flood stage. Here is the latest information on all of the local rivers still under a flood warning...

A flood warning continues for the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry affecting Screven County, and for the river near Clyo affecting Effingham County in southeastern Georgia as well as Hampton and Jasper Counties in South Carolina.

At 8 pm Monday the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry had a stage of 17.0 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall to 16.9 feet by Wednesday morning. At 15.0 feet, flooding of some adjacent agricultural lands occurs. Most boat ramps along the river are unusable.

At 7 pm Monday the Savannah River near Clyo had a stage of 16.2 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to remain at 16.2 feet through Wednesday morning. At 14.5 feet, the bottom floor of several riverfront homes along Tom Goethe Road begin to flood.



A flood warning remains in effect for the Ogeechee River near Midville affecting Burke, Jenkins, and Emanuel Counties, and for the river near Eden affecting Bryan, Effingham, and Chatham Counties.

At 8 pm Monday the Ogeechee River near Midville had a stage of 6.3 feet. Flood stage is 6 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Wednesday morning. At 6.0 feet, the access road into the river bluff in Midville begins to flood. The lower portion of Johnson Road near Herndon also becomes covered.

At 7 pm Monday the Ogeechee River near Eden had a stage of 12.1 feet. Flood stage is 9 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to rise to 12.7 feet early Thursday afternoon. At 12.0 feet, the bottom floor of several homes at Morgans Bridge begin to flood. The boat ramp and campground along Dashers Landing Road near Eden are impacted.



A flood warning continues for the Canoochee River near Claxton affecting Evans County.

At 7 pm Monday the Canoochee River near Claxton had a stage of 11.8 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Wednesday morning. At 11.0 feet, several homes along Parker Springs Road in Canoochee Properties become flooded.



A flood warning continues for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville affecting Tattnall County.

At 8 pm Monday the Ohoopee River near Reidsville had a stage of 16.7 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall to 15.3 feet by Wednesday morning. At 17.5 feet, water enters the ground level of homes in the Joy Bluff Community. The access road becomes covered with water.



A flood warning continues for the Oconee River near Dublin affecting Johnson and Laurens Counties and for the river near Mount Vernon affecting Montgomery and Treutlen Counties.

At 7 pm Monday the Oconee River near Dublin had a stage of 20.2 feet and was rising. Flooding is not currently occurring, but minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 21.0 feet. The river is forecast to rise to 22.0 feet by Wednesday morning and fall below flood stage by Friday morning. At 22.0 feet, minor flooding continues of low areas and woodlands near the river. Flooding will increase of some dirt river access roads. The water level will be at least one foot deep in some sections of the roads.

At 8 pm Monday the Oconee River near Mount Vernon had a stage of 15.9 feet and was falling, but the river is expected to begin rising again on Wednesday, and continue rising to 16.8 feet by early Saturday morning. Flooding is not currently occurring, but minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 16.0 feet. At 17.0 feet, minor flooding continues and expands into the pasture and woodland along the Oconee River. Some homes on Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery County become surrounded by water. Water begins to cover portions of Dead River Road.



A flood warning continues for the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City affecting Montgomery, Telfair, and Wheeler Counties.

At 8 pm Monday the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City had a stage of 16.4 feet and was falling. Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. At 15.0 feet, minor flooding begins. Water overflows into the broad swampy flood plain. Farm fields on the right bank flood. General agriculture and timber interests are affects by flooding. Water also reaches the top of the boat ramp near the Highway 341 bridge.



A flood warning continues for the Altamaha River at Charlotte affecting Jeff Davis, Montgomery, and Toombs Counties, for the river at Baxley affecting Appling and Toombs Counties, and for the river near Everett City in extreme northwestern Glynn County.

At 8:45 pm Monday the Altamaha River at Charlotte had a stage of 19.5 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. The river will continue falling to near 19.3 feet by Wednesday morning. At 21.0 feet, homes are affected on the north bank of the river just downstream of gage.

At 8:45 pm Monday the Altamaha River at Baxley had a stage of 80.7 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 74.5 feet. The river is forecast to continue rising to near 80.8 feet by midnight Tuesday then begin falling. At 82.0 feet, Davis Landing Road and Morris Landing Road are flooded.

At 2 pm Sunday the Altamaha River 3 miles northeast of Everett City had a stage of 14.8 feet and was beginning to crest. The most recent heavy rainfall event has led to additional crests upstream which may push the river up to 15 feet during the upcoming week. At 15.0 feet, major flooding occurs along all roads to the southwest of the Altamaha up to Highway 341. Water affects homes along Pennick and Old Jesup Roads as well as homes in Altamaha Park.
