A high surf advisory is in effect for Beaufort, Charleston, coastal Colleton, and coastal Jasper Counties in South Carolina until 5 pm Friday.
A strong onshore wind will develop tonight in association with a low pressure system moving through. Breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet will develop early Friday morning along the South Carolina coast. Waves of this magnitude will be dangerous to anyone who enters the surf...in addition to causing minor beach erosion. The largest waves will likely occur around high tide early Friday afternoon. Conditions should slowly improve thereafter...with a large decrease in wave height by Friday evening when winds become offshore.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area...producing dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.
