The tornado warning for Chatham County, Georgia and Beaufort and Jasper Counties in South Carolina has expired.
At 3:48 AM doppler radar indicated that the tornadic thunderstorm which prompted the warning has weakened and was no longer capable of producing tornadoes or other severe weather. The tornado warning has therefore been canceled.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 AM for the following Georgia counties: Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Evans, Tattnall, Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Echols, Glynn, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne and in the following South Carolina counties: Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Jasper. Strong storms will continue to develop and move accross these areas. In addition to the threat of isolated tornadoes, these storms could also produce large hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Flooding may become a problem, as the storms will be efficient rain producers.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
