Flood Warning for Altamaha River

The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING for the Altamaha River at Baxley affecting Appling and Toombs counties. Minor flooding is occurring and is expected to continue.

Recent heavy rainfall in the Altamaha Basin and Dam releases upstream have caused significant rises along the Altamaha River. At 9a.m. Friday, the stage of the Altamaha at Baxley was 75.98 feet and rising. Flood stage is 74.5 feet.

The river is forecast crest at 76 feet on Friday then a slow fall to below flood stage by Sunday morning.

Minor flooding of agricultural and timberlands can be expected.

Safety message...do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown.
