A tornado watch is in effect for the following Georgia counties: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Perce, Richmond, Screven, Tattnall, Ware, and Wayne as well as the following South Carolina counties: Allendale, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, and Jasper until 8 PM Saturday evening.
A powerful storm system is moving across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. A line of strong thunderstorms will continue moving east this afternoon and this evening. Those storms will be capable of generating large hail and strong winds as well as isolated tornadoes. These storms will also produce heavy rains and frequent cloud to ground lightning. The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. If you don’t have a basement, then you should get into an interior room such as a closet or a bathroom on the lowest level of your home.
