A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for the following counties: Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Ware and Wayne Counties until midnight. Severe Thunderstorms will be possible.
A Flood Watch is in effect now through Thursday evening for the following counties: Glynn, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling and Wayne.
A warm front will lift north across the northeast Florida and stall across southeast Georgia today. Low pressure will develop along the front and move across the area on Wednesday. These conditions will be conducive to a prolonged rain event across southeast Georgia. Areas in the flood watch have already received between 2 and 8 inches of rain over the past weekend, and the ground in these areas is saturated.
Additional rainfall amounts of 4 to 6 inches will likely cause flooding in the watch area or exacerbate flooding conditions. The Altamaha River is already expected to rise beyond flood stage at Baxley by midweek and other rivers, streams and creeks may experience flooding if more rainfall occurs. In addition, ditches may fill causing dirt roads and poorly drained roadways to become impassible.
Stay tuned to STORM TEAM 3 for the latest updates.
