Weekend Weather Advisories

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Scattered rain showers will continue to move onshore and move inland across parts of southeast Georgia and portions of southeast South Carolina. Rain totals up to a tenth of an inch in an hours time is expected for most areas. But some isolated locations will pick up more than half an inch due to heavier rainfall.

Coastal hazards
Shallow coastal flooding may develop near the evening high tides this weekend, and coastal advisories may eventually be needed. In addition, the combination of moderate onshore winds, elevated surf and the upcoming new moon and perigee will lead to an enhanced risk of rip currents into this holiday weekend.

High Risk for Rip Currents through Saturday...
The combination of moderate to strong onshore winds, elevated surf and the upcoming new moon will produce a high risk of rip currents at the beaches through Saturday.

Dangerous conditions are expected within the surf zone and everyone is encouraged to remain out of the water.

Rip currents are life threatening to anyone entering the surf. No one should enter the surf due to this life threatening hazards. Rip currents are strong narrow channels of water that flow quickly away from the beach. If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm and begin to swim parallel to the shore. Once you are away from the force of the rip current, begin to swim back to the beach. Do NOT attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Even a strong swimmer can become exhausted quickly.

Always heed the advice of lifeguards or the beach patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

For tonight, there will be a chance of rain showers. Expect mostly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 60s to the lower 70s. Winds will be out of the east at 10-15mph.

On Saturday, there will be a chance of rain showers in the morning. Then showers and thunderstorms will become likely in the afternoon. Highs will reach the mid 70s to the lower 80s with east/southeast winds at 10-20mph.
