Flood Warnings Update

Flood warnings continue for minor flooding along the Atlamaha River in Georgia as well as for the Savannah River on the Georgia/South Carolina border...

The flood warning continues for the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry affecting Screven County in Georgia and Hampton and Allendale Counties in South Carolina as well as for the Savannah River near Clyo affecting Effingham County in Georgia and Jasper County in South Carolina.

At 10 am Thursday the stage of the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry was 14.8 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. No flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to rise above flood stage Thursday evening...and continue rising to 16.7 feet Tuesday morning. At 15.0 feet...flooding of some adjacent agricultural lands occurs. Most boat ramps along the river are unusable.

At 10 am Thursday the stage of the Savannah River near Clyo was 10.9 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. No flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to rise above flood stage Thursday afternoon...and continue rising to 13.7 feet Tuesday morning. At 13.3 feet...one foot of water covers Tom Goethe Road just after the pavement ends.

The flood warning continues for the Altamaha River at Charlotte affecting Feff Davis, Montgomery, and Toombs Counties and for the Altamaha River at Baxley affecting Appling and Toombs Counties.

At 9:45 am Thursday the stage of the Altamaha River at Baxley was 75.4 feet. Flood stage is 74.5 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to continue rising to near 77.5 feet by early Monday morning then begin falling. At 78.0 feet...water begins to affect homes in the Carter Bight and Davis Landing areas.

At 9:45 am Thursday the stage of the Altamaha River at Charlotte was 14.8 feet. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Thursday afternoon and continue to rise to near 16.6 feet by early Monday morning.

Residents and those with interests along these rivers should take action to protect threatened property. High and fast flowing rivers are not suitable for recreation of any kind. Keep children away from flooded areas. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. Turn around, don`t drown.
