A flood watch remains in effect for Johnson, Emanuel, Dodge, Telfair, Wheeler, Montgomery, Toombs, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Atkinson, Ware, and Pierce Counties in central Georgia from 7 pm Thursday through Friday evening.
A strong low pressure system approaching the area will spread abundant moisture across central Georgia into Friday evening. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches can be expected across north and central Georgia; rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches can be expected across southern Georgia. The ground in these areas is nearly saturated. Flooding is already occurring along portions of the Altamaha River. The heaviest rainfall is expected to occur between midnight Thursday and Friday afternoon. Creeks and rivers prone to flooding will need to be monitored as this event unfolds. Widespread minor flooding can be expected with some moderate flooding possible. Flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas is possible along with localized street flooding in more rural areas.
A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
