Flood Warnings Update

A flood warning continues for the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry affecting Screven County in southeastern Georgia and Allendale County in South Carolina as well as for the river near Clyo affecting Effingham and Screven Counties in southeastern Georgia as well as Hampton and Jasper Counties in South Carolina.

At 9 pm Sunday the Savannah River at Burtons Ferry had a stage of 17.2 feet. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to remain steady. At 18.2 feet, the picnic area at Stoney Bluff Landing becomes flooded. Access to the house at the end of Stoney Bluff Landing Road is limited.

At 9 pm Sunday the Savannah River near Clyo had a stage of 16.1 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to rise to 16.2 feet by Monday morning, then begin a slow fall. At 14.5 feet, the bottom floor of several riverfront homes along Tom Goethe Road begins to flood.



A flood warning remains in effect for the Ogeechee River near Midville affecting Burke, Emanuel, and Jenkins Counties as well as for the river near Eden affecting Bryan, Effingham, and Chatham Counties.

At 9 pm Saturday the Ogeechee River near Midville had a stage of 6.0 feet. Flood stage is 6.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to rise to 6.5 feet by Thursday evening. At 6.0 feet, the access road into the river bluff in Midville begins to flood. The lower portion of Johnson Road near Herndon also becomes covered.

At 9 pm Sunday the Ogeechee River near Eden had a stage of 13.4 feet. Flood stage is 9 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to remain steady through Monday, then begin a slow fall. At 13.5 feet, several homes and a picnic area along Yarbrough Landing Road begin to flood.



A flood warning continues for the Canoochee River near Claxton affecting Evans County.

At 9 pm Sunday the Canoochee River near Claxton had a stage of 11.1 feet. Flood stage is 11.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to 11.7 feet by Tuesday morning, and to fall below flood stage by Friday morning. At 11.0 feet, several homes along Parker Springs Road in Canoochee Properties become flooded.



A flood warning continues for the Ohoopee River near Reidsville affecting Tattnall County.

At 9 pm Sunday the Ohoopee River near Reidsville had a stage of 14.5 feet. Flood stage is 11.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to rise to 15.0 feet by Monday evening, then begin a slow fall. At 14.0 feet, flooding of several riverside unimproved roads and some agricultural land occurs.



A flood warning continues for the Altamaha River at Charlotte affecting Jeff Davis, Montgomery, and Toombs Counties; for the river at Baxley affecting Appling and Toombs Counties; as well as for the river near Everett City affecting northern Glynn County.

At 9:45 am Sunday the Altamaha River at Charlotte had a stage of 18.7 feet. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to continue falling to near 18.2 feet by Monday morning. At 15.0 feet, flooding of mainly low lying areas occurs.

At 9:45 am Sunday the Altamaha River at Baxley had a stage of 80.2 feet. Flood stage is 74.5 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall to a stage of 80.0 feet by Monday morning. At 78.0 feet, water begins to affect homes in the Carter Bight and Davis Landing areas.

At 12:15 pm Saturday the Altamaha River 3 miles northeast of Everett City had a stage of 14.7 feet. Flood waters from the Oconee and the Ohoopee Rivers continue to move down the Altamaha towards Everett City. The river is forecast to rise to near 15.0 feet by Monday. At 15.0 feet, major flooding occurs along all roads to the southwest of the Altamaha up to Highway 341. Water affects homes along Pennick and Old Jesup Roads as well as homes in Altamaha Park.



A flood warning continues for the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City affecting Montgomery, Telfair, and Wheeler Counties.

At 10 pm Sunday the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City had a stage of 15.1 feet. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Monday afternoon. At 15.0 feet, flood stage is reached. Water overflows into the broad swampy flood plain. Farm fields on the right bank flood. General agriculture and timber interests are affected by the flooding. In addition, water reaches the top of the boat ramp near the Highway 341 bridge.



A flood warning continues for the Satilla River at Atkinson affecting Brantley County.

At 9:45 am Sunday the Satilla River at Atkinson had a stage of 13.8 feet. Flood stage is 13.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring. The river is forecast to remain steady. At 13.0 feet, Warner Landing, Louis Land, and secondary roads around the KOA campgrounds begin to flood.



Residents and those with interests along these rivers should take action to protect threatened property. High and fast flowing rivers are not suitable for recreation of any kind. Keep children away from flooded areas. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. Turn around...don’t drown.
