A winter weather advisory is in effect for Jenkins, Screven, Candler, Bulloch, and Effingham Counties in Georgia as well as for Allendale, Hampton, Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley, Jasper, Beaufort, and Charleston Counties in South Carolina from 9 pm Saturday evening to 9 am Sunday.
Temperatures will drop to around freezing after 9 pm, then continue dropping into the middle and upper 20s overnight. Some secondary and lesser traveled roads along with some elevated structures such as bridges and overpasses may still contain standing water or slush from melting snow. This standing water will freeze over late tonight, creating areas of black ice.
Motorists should use caution on the roads tonight as black ice is very difficult to spot until it is encountered...and it may be too late to avoid it by then. Reduce speeds if traveling on any potentially affected roadway. If black ice is encountered...do not overcompensate by over steering or excessive braking as this may make you lose control of your vehicle.
Pedestrians should also be very aware of the occurrence of black ice as you may slip, fall and injure yourself.
