Freeze Warning in Effect Tonight

A FREEZE WARNING is in effect from 4a.m. to 9a.m. Saturday for the following counties: coastal Bryan, coastal Chatham, coastal Liberty and coastal McIntosh.

Cold high pressure will build into the area from the northwest tonight producing mainly clear skies and brisk northwest winds. This will allow for freezing temperatures to reach areas near the Intracoastal waterway in southeast Georgia. This includes communities such as Thunderbolt, Wilmington Island, Skidaway Island, Fort McAllister, Halfmoon Landing, Valona and Darien.

There is a chance freezing temperatures could briefly reach the beaches, including Tybee Island, Ossabaw Island and Sapelo Island.

Temperatures will be at or below freezing for at least two hours late tonight and early Saturday morning, mainly between 4a.m. and 9a.m. Winds as high as 10 to 15mph will produce wind chills in the 20 to 25 degree range.

Prepare tonight. Protect the pets and plants. Protect outside vegetation such as plants and flowers by bringing them indoors. Wrap large plants and trees with plastic to protect them from the cold.

A FREEZE WARNING is also in effect from 3a.m. to 9a.m. Saturday, and a HARD FREEZE WATCH is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning for the following counties: Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Ware and Pierce.

An Arctic airmass will plunge southward into inland southeast Georgia tonight. Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 20s early Saturday morning with a light freeze. Northwest winds of 10 to 15mph will drop wind chill indices into the 20 to 25 degree range.

An Arctic airmass in place will allow for possible hard freeze conditions Saturday night. Temperatures will bottom out early Sunday morning in the lower 20s with long durations of sub-freezing temperatures expected. Northwest winds of 5 to 10mph will drop wind chill indices into the upper teens.
