Cold arctic high pressure will remain across the region through the weekend. Considerably colder temperatures are expected tonight with a hard freeze likely occurring all the way to the beaches...which should end the growing season all the way to the coast.
Lows along the north Georgia coast are expected to drop into the mid to upper 20s with a freeze duration of around 7 hours at the beaches and around 12 hours away from the coast. Northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will drop wind chills to around 20 degrees across this area.
Temperatures will bottom out early Sunday morning in the lower 20s with long durations of sub-freezing temperatures expected across southern Georgia. Northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will drop wind chill indices into the upper teens.
The frigid airmass will continue through early next week. Temperatures are again forecast to bottom out in the lower 20s early Monday morning with long durations of sub-freezing temperatures expected. This has prompted the issuance of hard freeze watch for Sunday night into Monday morning.
A hard freeze warning and a freeze warning mean sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
