A HARD FREEZE WARNING is in effect from 9p.m. this evening to 10a.m. Tuesday for the following counties: Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Ware & Pierce.
The frigid air mass will continue. Temperatures are again forecast to bottom out in the lower 20s early Tuesday morning with long durations of sub-freezing temperatures expected. Northwest winds of 5mph will drop wind chill indices into the lower to mid teens.
These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Young children, the elderly, the homeless and outdoor pets are especially vulnerable to the cold. Take measures to protect them. Be particularly careful with portable heaters as there is danger of fire or poisonous fumes.
For tonight, it will be bitterly cold. Inland areas will drop to lows in the upper teens to the lower 20s, and coastal areas will see lows in the mid 20s. With northwest winds at 5-10mph, wind chill index values will drop as low as ten degrees!!!!
On Tuesday, expect a frigid start to the day. We will have sunny skies, but brisk northwest winds will give us highs only in the lower to mid 40s. Wind chills will stay in the 20s to the lower 30s.
