Risk of Frozen Pipe Damage

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Brrrr!!!!! It's cold outside, and it's going to really drop tonight.

Freezing temperatures could cause pipes to freeze and burst, which could destroy floors, furniture, appliances and treasured family heirlooms.

But you can reduce the chance that your pipes will freeze simply by insulating pipes in unheated areas and those that run along outside walls, floors and ceilings. Disconnect outside garden hoses, and seal foundation cracks that let arctic air freeze pipes in crawlspaces.

You can also do the following:
1. Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to piping under sinks and vanities near exterior walls
2. Run a small trickle of water from hot and cold faucets during extreme cold
3. Keep exterior doors to unheated spaces closes as much as possible during winter months
