It's the fourth night in a row with freezing temperatures, and we have many more nights to go.
A rare Arctic air mass has taken over the area. Instead of easing up, we will see a re-enforcing blast of cold air at the end of the work week. So this means...bundle up and stay bundled up!
For tonight, inland areas will drop to lows in the lower to mid 30s. If you live on the coast, you'll drop to lows in the upper 20s. Under clear skies and northwest winds, we will see wind chills as cold as the mid teens.
These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Young children, the elderly, the homeless and outdoor pets are especially vulnerable to the cold. Take measures to protect them.
Be careful with portable heaters, as there is danger of fire or poisonous fumes.
Also, take appropriate action to ensure exposed water pipes have adequate protection from the cold temperatures.
On Wednesday, it will be just as cold. Despite sunny skies, highs will only reach the lower to mid 40s. With westerly winds at 5-15mph, wind chills will stay down in the 30s.
On Thursday, it will warm up...maybe 5 degrees! We will take what we can get though! But don't expect this to continue.
On Thursday night into Friday morning, we will receive a re-enforcing shot of bitterly cold air. This could bring a small chance of winter precipitation. During the overnight hours, we "could" see a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow. Again, this is a small chance and still too soon to tell exactly what we will see. Stay tuned to STORM TEAM 3.
Stay warm and keep looking up!
