Is it going to snow? Well, I wouldn't get too excited just yet...unless, a few snowflakes are enough to make you smile.
For tonight, we are tracking a winter storm that has already dropped light snow amounts in parts of Alabama and northwest Georgia. This storm system is headed here during the overnight hours. First, we will see an increase in cloud cover. Then there will be a slight chance of rain showers. It's not until close to sunrise when we could see the rain mix with ice pellets and snow. Accumulations are not expected. At best, an isolated area could see a trace amount. With westerly winds, we will drop to lows in the lower to mid 30s. This winter precipitation chance is a small one. You should be just fine in the morning as you head to work or school. Ice is not expected, but it is possible that something could develop on a bridge or overpass.
On Friday, the storm system will move out quickly. Some clouds will hang on as northwest winds kick in and become brisk. It will definitely turn colder, and temperatures will hold steady in the 30s for much of the day with wind chills down in the 20s. Trust me...it will be cold, and you will want to bundle up!
By Friday night, we are back in a hard freeze. Under clearing skies and northwest winds, we will drop back down in the upper teens to the 20s. And over the weekend, it will stay cold. Highs will only reach the 40s, despite sunny skies.
Stay warm, drive carefully and keep looking up!
