Yesterday, nearly 100 sea turtles found floating were rescued from the Mosquito Lagoon in Florida after cold water shocked their tropically inclined systems. Tonight at 8 pm the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island, Ga. will be receiving ten of these cold stunned sea turtles for treatment and rehabilitation.
Today there has been another pulse of turtle strandings in the same area. These are predominantly green turtles and a couple of loggerheads
We are working closely the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission who is distributing these turtles to multiple facilities including Marineland, Sea World, the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach area, Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet Florida, Mote Marine Laboratory, University of Florida, and others.
We thought you and your readers would be interested in this story, and the aid the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, funded and operated by the Jekyll Island Authority, continues to provide in emergency situations like this.
