A high surf advisory remains in effect for coastal Bryan, coastal Chatham, coastal Liberty, and coastal McIntosh Counties in southeastern Georgia as well as for Beaufort, coastal Colleton, Charleston, and coastal Jasper Counties in South Carolina until 11 am Monday.
Ahead of an approaching cold front, strong south to southeast winds will push hazardous 5 to 7 foot breakers onto the beaches of southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia Sunday afternoon through Sunday night. After the cold front pushes off the coast, the high surf will persist into Monday morning...then offshore winds will push highest waves away from the coast.
The high surf could produce at least minor beach erosion, especially around the time of high tide Sunday afternoon (2:19 pm at the Savannah River entrance at Fort Pulaski) and after midnight Sunday night/Monday morning.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.
