A tornado watch is in effect for Laurens, Montgomery, Telfair, Wheeler, Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Ware, Bulloch, Candler, Evans, Jenkins, Screven, and Tattnall Counties in central and southeastern Georgia as well as for Allendale and Hampton Counties in southeastern South Carolina until 1:00 am Monday morning.
Tornadoes, hail to 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
Strong winds aloft ahead of vigorous upper trough and strengthening area of surface low pressure are favorable for an increasing threat of tornadic supercell thunderstorms in the warm sector (area still ahead of an approaching cold front) across the watch area. In addition the line of thunderstorms from northern Georgia southwestward to the western Florida panhandle will continue to be a threat of damaging winds along with isolated tornadoes as the line continues eastward through Sunday evening.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
