A tornado watch is in effect for Bryan, Liberty, Chatham and McIntosh Counties in southeastern Georgia as well as for Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper Counties in southeastern South Carolina until 7 this morning.
Tornadoes, hail to 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
With the very strong wind shear (change of speed and direction of wind with height) in place across the moist and marginally unstable warm sector (area still ahead of approaching cold front), conditions remain favorable for not only wind damage but brief tornadoes. Current squall line in western South Carolina southward into eastern Georgia will be the focus for primary severe concern as individual storms move rapidly northeastward.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
