Weekend winter storm aims for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry
As of Friday evening, a major storm system is hitting the Deep South. There's snow, ice and heavy rain. This storm system will move slowly eastward and hit our area late Friday night and Saturday.
For tonight, expect overcast skies and rain showers will become likely after midnight. Rain could be moderate to even heavy at times during the overnight hours. As for lows, there's a big spread. Most of inland areas will drop to the 40s. If you live on the coast, you'll see lows only drop to the lower 50s.
On Saturday, there's a 100% chance of rain. Rain will definitely fall during the morning hours. By later in the afternoon, there will be a chance of rain showers. Colder air will also return, and temperatures will drop. Most of us will begin the day in the upper 40s to the lower 50s. Temperatures will likely hold steady and then begin to drop. Winds will also pick up at 10-15mph.
On Saturday night, the storm system will be gone, but the colder air will still be in the process of taking over the area. As skies clear, we will see our temperatures drop quickly. Lows will then drop to the upper 20s to the lower 30s.
On Sunday, sunshine is back in the forecast. Problem is, it will stay chilly. Highs will only reach around 50 degrees!
On Sunday night, lows will once again dip very low to the mid 20s to the lower 30s.
Despite the rain and despite the cold, I hope you have a great weekend! And as always...keep looking up!
