The large north-south temperature contrast across the country will continue on Tuesday. As fresh Arctic air sweeps from the Northwest and Northern Rockies into the Plains and Upper Midwest, early-week warmth more reminiscent of spring is in play over parts of the South.
The latest plunge of Arctic air that swept into the northern Rockies and northern Plains Monday will make a move to the Upper Midwest Tuesday. Note the single-digit and teens highs in the Dakotas, Minnesota and northern Montana.
Meanwhile, 60s, 70s, and even a few low 80s will warm the Gulf Coast and Southeast. How does that sound to you?
By mid-January standards, low temperatures associated with the new Arctic front could be much colder.
